Information of Beneficiary

Villagers from Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Lalang Baru as Beneficiary

We are collaborating with JCI (Junior Chamber International UNMC) which is another club in university, towards helping this group of peoples in all possible aspects by using our capacity and resources to build permanent house. Kampung Sungai Lalang is an Orang Asli village located in Semenyih, Selangor. The Orang Asli are the indigenous peoples of Malaysia, and are speculated to be some of the first settlers before the current ethnic majorities established the first governments. Despite their heritage, the Orang Asli constantly face discrimination and have their rights challenged simply on the preface of choosing a different way of life. The people of Kampung Sungai Lalang are no different, and the purpose of this community map is to determine their current status in a constantly developing world. It aims to identify their assets (both tangible and intangible) which range from natural resources, infrastructure to cultural skills which may become a propulsion point for mobilising the community towards their own desired future, as well as to identify threats and opportunities to support their long-term vision planning. We ultimately hope to establish a strong relationship with the village where we stand as equals and contribute value to each other. Given our close proximity, we are in a position to facilitate our collective development as two connected communities. Kampung Sungai Lalang is the first village to be mapped through the EPIC+ movement.

The Beneficiary (Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Lalang Baru)

Around 70% of total donations and funds raised will help to fund the development of facilities and infrastructure of the establishment.

The Beneficiary (RED Project and Home visits)

Around 30% of donations and funds raised will help to the provide the capital for both the projects and materials fees of the projects, including the refreshments for homes, transportations and others.

We are collaborating with JCI (Junior Chamber International UNMC) which is another club in university, towards helping this group of peoples in all possible aspects by using our capacity and resources to build permanent house. We also seek to raise awareness on the hardships of indigenous people and the needed face every day. We plan to use the funds to further develop and provide better residential care facilities to the indigenous people in our country. In addition, parts of the fund raised from this event will be utilized to support RED projects and home visit activities, which are under ACE society.

About the Organizer

ACE-Logo

ACE is a charity-based society established at The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC). Solely run by students, for the past 8 years, we’ve organised many fund-raising events, visits to homes, and other charitable activities, involving students and staff with the surrounding community. Based in Semenyih, we strive to raise awareness about and improve the quality of life of underprivileged families living in the area, as well as fund raise for global and national charities.

Our name ACE simply stands for our values: action, compassion, and empathy; our ultimate goal is to instil compassion and empathy in our volunteers through the act of charity. We also aim to incorporate the idea of family, and thus building and extending the ACE family by establishing a good rapport with the volunteers.

All in all, ACE serves a platform for us to foster bonds not only with the students in university but also with the people we regularly visit each month. We hope to be able to share the warmth we feel from helping others to empower them through hardship while sticking to our core values to the rest of the community.
